Background

Lifelong chess player with 40+ years of tournament experience and a peak USCF rating of 1,950. Sara has competed at regional and national levels and brings deep positional understanding to every lesson.

Teaching Style

Focuses on building strong foundational habits, pattern recognition, and tournament preparation. Patient and methodical — students learn the "why" behind every move.

Scholastic Specialist

Maddox Shultz

Coach

Background

Specialized in scholastic and library chess programs, Maddox brings energy and creativity to every session. He has run successful youth programs at public libraries and community centers throughout the region.

Teaching Style

Enthusiastic and beginner-friendly. Maddox excels at making chess approachable and fun for younger students and first-time players, using games and puzzles to build confidence.

Roman Williams

Coach

Background

Experienced tournament director and competitive player with a strong background in organized chess events. Roman has directed and competed in dozens of USCF-rated tournaments across the Southeast.

Teaching Style

Tactical and results-driven. Roman focuses on calculation training, time management under pressure, and the mental game of competitive chess — ideal for players preparing for rated events.
